Product Care
To preserve the beauty of your product, we recommend following these guidelines for its care
– Always use a shoehorn when putting shoes on.
– In order to allow the leather fibers to air and rest, never wear the same pair of shoes more than two consecutive days.
– Always insert shoetrees in the shoes after use.
– Keep your shoes in the two felt pouches provided and store them in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place.
– Clean your shoes with a brush or a soft, slightly damp cloth.
– To maintain its appearance, do not rub it.
– Avoid contact with water, any substance containing alcohol (perfumes, solvents etc.) or oil (makeup), and abrasive products in general. If shoes have been in contact with water, it is important to allow them to dry thoroughly on shoe trees before cleaning them.
– It is important to allow your sneakers to air naturally, and to this end they possess a removable in-sock. If your sneakers become wet, simply remove the in-sock and leave them to dry in a cool, well-ventilated place. This will ensure additional comfort when they are next worn.
For some reason the “youngsters” in my life tease me.
Go ahead and tease me for wearing durable, comfortable and reasonably priced shoes.
Clean, simple, classic look.
Ya shouldn’t be looking at my feet…the real action is up top!
Been buying these for decades.
????
They are comfortable to walk in, and they are comfortable on the tread mill and working out with stack weights. The inner soles are comfortable and provide good support. The insides are smooth, so nothing poking at my feet or causing discomfort.
They look good. The leather has held up, the soles are not really wearing, so they hold up well.
Thankfully I am able to report that New Balance has returned to the game providing a truly WIDE shoe.
I ordered the men's 12 WIDE all black 608 shoe. My usage is for a upscale corporate security officer position in a high-rise where our uniform is a black sport coat, white dress shirt, black or gray tie and black slacks. I opted for this style of shoe because it looks better than a black running shoe.
LOOKS:
-- IMHO it will not appeal to the younger crowd. The aesthetics simply are not designed that way from the stitching to the overall design and including the width. But for my needs it is just fine.
-- It gets a B grade for looks
COMFORT:
-- I would give it an A- or better so far
-- I inserted an OTC orthotic (and removed the included one) and that surely helped
-- I walk approximately 9K to 16K steps per day patrolling our building and parking garage and everything in between escorting vendors etc.
-- Walking on concrete is going to be a challenge for any shoe, but this shoe responded quite well.
-- Since I walk so much I will likely be replacing these every 3-4 months when the cushioning is shot.
-- I mostly sit or walk on my job with little standing, but when I did stand in brief increments when at the desk or escorting vendors they did the job.
-- This is a LIGHTWEIGHT shoe
SIZE:
-- This is a true WIDE and the size 12 is very accurate.
-- I wear a size 12 shoe 98% of the time and this is a definite 12.
-- My podiatrist said my feet are of a NORMAL width (not narrow and not wide), but since I use OTC orthotics for plantar fasciitis I often need WIDE shoes to get my orthotic to fit. These are quite roomy for me and borderline almost too roomy for my "normal" width sized foot. Bear this in mind.
SLIP-RESISTANT:
-- Not tested as spills rarely occur in my workplace nor greasy floors
REASON I PURCHASED:
-- Reasons already mentioned and I saw a Men's Health review that ranked this shoe as their #2 best for walking and as you can see I walk a lot.
-- If it keeps performing well I could see getting this as a walking shoe for the neighborhood when my other walking shoes wear out and when my other New Balance shoes I use for shooting hoops by myself (for exercise only) wear out I will likely opt for these for those purposes.
VALUE:
-- Price is fair for quality of shoe received
Someone said this had memory foam. I don't think so. Its EVA on the sole. It has a touch of fluidity, but is a conventional foam. I had memory foam sneakers. They were hot in the summer, and felt squishy with every step. Memory foam is made from petroleum products and may contain formaldehyde. In 2023 the EPA is banning formaldehyde exposure for kids. Hopefully they'll get it out of their sneakers.
My size was out of stock for a long time. Many months. Had to buy a Monarch. They feel as good as the Monarch Air IV for cushioning, and are less slippery on wet surfaces than the monarchs. When you wear a Monarch, they stick out like sore thumbs. Too bright and bold. These grey shoes are discreet. They go well with blue jeans and an old hoodie.
